BDFCL targets 57, 820 rural clients by 2013

26 January, 2010 - The country’s sole development bank that caters to rural Bhutanese, the Bhutan development finance corporation Ltd. (BDFCL), is aiming to acquire 57,820 rural credit customers by the end of 2013 as part of its micro-financing mandate. In 2009, BDFCL had 18,627 rural credit customers.

Upon completion of the financial year - 2009, the BDFCL is now open for business for the 2010.

Micro finance policy crucial to alleviate poverty

4 November, 2009 - Bhutan needs to adopt a national policy on micro finance. This was the message at a seminar on creating a suitable environment and regulatory framework for micro financing yesterday.

Signing of MOU with the BCCI

BDFCL and BCCI will be signing a MOU for financing micro credit under the GGLS for micro enterprises for formal group i.e licence holder and registered member of the BCCI on the 28th of October, 2009.

GGLS for Vegetable Vendors at the Centenary Farmers' Market, Thimphu

BDFCL launched GGLS for the vegetable vendors at the Centenary Farmers' Market, Thimphu for 10 groups comprising of 43 members. Project started off very well and good response recieved from the public.

This provision in the Bhutan development finance corporation limited’s (BDFCL) brand new Nu 60 million head office complex on Norzin Lam in Thimphu has been built with an eye on the very near future.

The 21-year-old government- owned development bank with a special focus on agriculture development, the country’s only one, is hoping to expand into providing domestic banking services in the larger urban centres of Thimphu and Phuentsholing. The basic idea is to mobilise funds through savings and deposits to fund its rural credit operations.
